Meari is an on-site interactive screen installed at the mountain entrace and provides 1) trail
recommendation, 2) trail building, and 3) real-time road and weather conditions.
While the popularity of hiking is increasing, fast-changing hiking trends and hikers’ needs are not being
reflected actively.
In order to discover young hikers’ behavioral patterns and their needs, we conducted several user
researches.
We conducted several in-depth interviews, performed affinity mapping, led a participatory design workshop,
and finally derived a design solution based on the insights we gathered.
We have discovered that users sought specific and personalized information.
There was a common need for customized and personalized information, specifically information on hiking
trails. They sought for visual illustrations in solution design for hiking experience as well. Through
Meari, a smart screen designed by analyzing hikers’ behavioral pattern and common needs, hikers will be able
to find the hiking trail that matches their preference the most.
